Overview:
The Bhoi (Bauri, Basuri) are an occupational caste known as those who carry a litter or palanquin. They are distributed in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Assam. In Odisha they are notified as a scheduled caste, while in Assam they are included among the scheduled tribes.
