Overview: Arab peoples form one of the largest cultural-linguistic blocs in the world, concentrated across North Africa and the Middle East, with significant diaspora communities in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The Arab world spans from Morocco and Mauritania to Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula, encompassing 22 countries where Arabic is an official language. Arabic serves as the primary unifying factor, with Classical Arabic preserved in the Quran and Modern Standard Arabic used formally, while numerous regional dialects vary considerably. Shared cultural elements include literary traditions, cuisine, music, and historical connections to ancient civilizations and Islamic empires. Arab peoples are predominantly Muslim (approximately 90%, including Sunni and Shia), but also include Arab Christians (particularly in Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, and Palestine), Druze, and other minority faiths with roots predating Islam's 7th-century emergence.
